Farmer responses to what inspires their farm’s safety

As part of every one of our farm safety campaigns we ask farmers the question, What inspires your farm’s safety?  And throughout the years the response has been tremendous and truly inspiring. A general theme was also evident, a clear desire to prevent harm and proactively make farming a safer occupation and lifestyle. We are thankful for these inspiring responses and will continue to champion farm safety on-farm and through our Cargill Dairy Dreams blog. Find Cargill’s farm safety resources here.

Farmer responses:

“A very wise extension agent said if you have kids on a farm, there will be accidents, but majority of the time these can be prevented. It does not matter how large or small a dairy farm is, I would rather be proactive than reactive to ensure my children (hopefully the next generation) can thrive in production agriculture.”

“Our daughter and nephews are the next generation of our family farm. It is important for us to make every experience on the farm memorable but most importantly safe.”

“There have been accidents on neighboring farms. I don’t want my family to become a statistic.”

“Knowing how quickly an accident can happen and realizing that a neon-colored vest in someone’s line of sight can save a life.”

“The safety of our employees is top priority. We want them to return to their family each day, knowing we did our part to keep them safe.”

“We are raising our two children on the dairy farm. Our oldest is autistic and It’s important for us to include him on the farm, but safety and keeping an eye on him at all times is imperative. His little sister is the best sister for him and helps and protects him every step of the way, and together they love farming!”

“Seeing farm accidents close to home, especially ones that can be prevented.”

“I love my children. I want to protect them while being raised in one of the best places to be raised. The farm.”

“A farming accident where my sister-in-law was killed.”

“When delivering grain to our Coop we noticed all the employees their wear Hi-Viz vests, seems like a good idea that we should too. One of the vests I’ve ordered is for my wife who likes to ride bicycle. On rural roads this will help make her more visible as well.”

“A neighbor passed away last summer in a farming accident, and anything that can be done to increase safety and prevent another loss is so important.”
